The Approach Shot
Greens In Regulation
Next to putting, this could be the most important shot you make. Particular attention should be paid to the approach shot.
The approach shot should be your second shot on a par 4 and it should put you on the green. Hitting the ball onto the green
on your second shot on a par 4 means you have made the green in regulation. Then it only takes two putts for par.
Miss the green on the approach and you are left with a lot of work to make par. Unfortunately, this is what most of us do on
a regular basis.
Greens in Regulation (GIR) and putting are the two major aspects that will lower your score. Least amout of putts and more
GIR will most asuredly get you scoring low. Imagine if you hit 8 GIR and then two putted each and then bogied the rest of your
round. You would end up with 10 over par. That's and 82 on a par 72 course. When was the last time you shot an 82?
150 Yards Out
Most golfers have a club in their bag that they know will go 150 yards with consistency. It's probably the most reliable club
in their bag. So next time your on a par 4 hole, try to hit the ball around that 150 yard marker. Then you have one very
consitent club you can use for your approach shot. Remember, this game is about scoring, not about who can drive the ball further.
