Can't We All Just Get Along

The game of golf was really designed for anyone to be able to play. However, it doesn't mean that you should act up while on the course. How you conduct yourself makes an impact on everyone's experience. Therefore, there are certain rules of etiquitte to be followed.

In tournament play, it is determined by the committee who will play first. After that, the player with honors is the next to tee off. This means that the player with the lowest score on the previous hole is first up. However, casual play (for the rest of us) should be played as "ready golf". This means, if you're ready then tee off. This helps in keeping the speed of play up and nobody ends up waiting too long to tee off.

More on ready golf under Speed of Play.

Very few times have I played with others where I didn't have a great time. Golfers in general are very curtious (on the course). The rules of golf should be observed but they are commonly broken in casual play. After teeing off, it seems it is everybody for themselves. The furthest person from the hole is really the next person to hit and two people should not be trying to hit at the same time. But this does not mean that a lot of time should be taken between players.

On the green, again the player furthest from the hole is the next up. The number one rule of ediquette here is do not step on the line of other players. The line of other players is the line the ball needs to travel between the player and the hole. This rule is also broken on a regular basis.

Fix your ball marks on the green. All too often I find ball marks all over the green and I fix them where I can but I also don't want to slow down the play. So if you make a ball mark on the green, be curtious to others and fix it.

Replace your divots. Help keep the course looking and playing its best by replacing your divots and using the mix supplied at the tee boxes.
